COMMODIGI
digital commodities for the online world

This is where we left off.

Way back in time, when Maya was a gleam in Hollywood's eye and there were a dozen high value 3d packages that basically shared little in common, there was a small French company called Eovia. They turned out a modestly-priced 3d creation programme called Carrara. Like every other programme looking for a space in the market, Carrara did things in its own quirky way, mixing innovation with... well, some baffling workflow practices. But it worked.

By the time Carrara was bought up by Daz, it needed a lift to compete with another baffling European offering called Blender. And this one was free. Carrara basically disappeared and the march of Blender began. But Commodigi had a copy of Carrara in its workflow since the earliest days. It was like a little notebook program to try things out, pitch an idea, develop a texture and even produce a finished piece. Our vintage Ludwig drum kit was created in Carrara, and yes it paid its way.

Today, as of time of writing, Carrara seems to be all but abandoned and Blender's v2.8 is seen as a serious addition to any workflow. It even has sponsorship from the likes of Epic Games, and we all know that's some heavy approval. Affordable quality heralds a coming of age for the underdog, and what better time for Commodigi to come back out of the shadows and pitch amongst the industry standards? For those we have left behind... we salute you.
